I have drawn or painted more than 200 Hungarian Vizsla portraits and even though they are all the same colour and size I'm always surprised by how unique each one is, and Ivy is no exception. I often wonder if being exceptionally attached to people causes this breed to wear so much expression on their faces!
The reference photograph sent by the client was almost like a painting in itself, it was absolutely beautiful and so clear.
I started with a quick sketch using pastel pencil.
Ivy's portrait was drawn with Faber Castell Pitt Pastel Pencils and Unison Soft Pastel on Daler Rowney Ingres Pastel Paper and measures 40 x 30cm / 16" x 12".
