I am taking part in the Country Living Christmas Fair in London this year, and it has motivated me to increase my range of products.
I don’t generally like to use past portrait commissions for prints or products as they are so personal to somebody, so I requested help with sourcing some reference photos on my social media pages. Even though I have lots of Hungarian Vizsla products a Wire Haired Vizsla was missing, and was one of the breeds suggested which I thought was a great idea. Hettie’s mum put forward this great photo to use as a reference.
Hettie
I started with a simple sketch with a light coloured pastel pencil, then drew over the lines I wanted to keep with a darker colour.
I then put down a layer of ivory coloured pastel pencil and added a few more layers on top to ensure a smooth base. I added the base colours of her eyes, nose and some darker areas of her face.
Once I was sure of the main structure of her face I could add in some detail on the darker areas, leaving the lightest areas to the very end.
After all detail had been added with a pastel pencil, I then used a soft pastel to add in the richest colours.
Wire Haired Hungarian Vizsla. 12″ x 12″ / 30 x 30cm. 2016.
Hettie’s portrait was created with Faber Castell pastel pencil and Unison soft pastel on Daler Rowney Ingres pastel paper. It is available as a fine art giclee print.
This portrait will be printed onto tote bags in the near future, also it will be available as a Gesso Print. To keep up to date, or for a 10% discount on all products and commissions, subscribe to my mailing list.
