Of all the great reference photographs I received of Siren, this one really stood out. She has such a beautiful profile and her eyes are so soft but still so intense.
The portrait size was 10" x 8", so in order to include a high level of detail I sketched just her face and neck, omitting her paws.
After sketching a very loose outline I immediately worked on the eye, partly because I was really eager to and party because her eye is so intense I found it difficult to focus on any other part of her face.
I continued to work in small, detailed areas.
For the remainder of the face and the ear I layered ivory pastel pencil before shades of brown and red to allow light to come through and prevent it from becoming too dark and heavy.
