Willow

Having painted Willow before with watercolour I was really excited to draw her with pastel. She is so beautiful, and her reference photograph was absolutely perfect with natural outdoor lighting.

I started with a loose sketch which marked out the main shape and features.

As this is quite a large piece at 23" x 17" / 58 x 43cm, I work on it in sections, starting first with the head.

Then the body...

And finally I added a background.

The finished piece measures 23" x 17" and was drawn with Faber Castell Pitt pastel pencils and Unison soft pastels.
